The Byron Bay Winter Whales Ocean Swim Classic was first held in 1988 and has been running annually ever since. Starting out with a very small number of ocean swimmers, “swimming for charity”, the Winter Whales Ocean Swim has now over 1700 regular participants and the numbers continue to rise every year.

Every Year, humpback & southern right whales migrate from their feeding ground in Antarctica along the east coast to their breeding ground in the Great Barrier Reef & back again, and the Byron Bay whale watching is on.
With Cape Byron being the most easterly point of the Australian mainland & closest to the Pacific’s eastern current it provides the perfect platform for this annual pilgrimage. During the southern migration mothers and calves are sighted in the Bay’s pristine waters.
Beaches such as Wategos, Tallos, Belongil and Clark’s can be found on either side of the town.
These beaches are considered by surfers to be some of the best surfing beaches in Australia.
There are many fine restaurants in Byron Bay whose cuisine you can sample. Entertainment abounds in the vibrant pubs and clubs arround Byron Bay with live music available every night of the week.
1st Sunday of Every Month and the Farmers Market is every Thursday.
Venue: Butler Street Reserve behind the railway station Byron Bay Town Centre.
